A Rich History
The WSOP began in 1970 as an invitational event organized by Benny Binion at his Horseshoe Casino. Johnny Moss was voted the first champion by his peers. The Main Event grew rapidly, especially during the "poker boom" of the early 2000s, fueled by Chris Moneymaker's unlikely win in 2003 after qualifying through an online satellite.
