Use elapsed days, or include both boundary dates for a schedule count.
Method
Why date math needs care
Subtracting ordinary local timestamps looks simple, but daylight-saving time can make a local day shorter or longer than 24 hours. Dividing that timestamp difference by 24 hours can then create an off-by-one result.
This tool treats the selected values as calendar dates. It converts their year, month, and day into UTC-based day numbers before comparing them. The count therefore represents date boundaries, not local clock duration.
Elapsed and inclusive counts
An elapsed count excludes the starting point. January 1 to January 2 is one elapsed day. An inclusive schedule count includes both named dates, so the same range occupies two dates.
The exact years, months, and days result uses real calendar units. It does not describe every month as four weeks or 30 days. This makes the answer more useful for ages, anniversaries, contracts, and long projects.

Quick answers
Date difference FAQ
How is the difference between two dates calculated?
Each calendar date is converted to a neutral day number, then the smaller number is subtracted from the larger one. This avoids local clock and daylight-saving errors.
Can the start date be later than the end date?
Yes. The calculator shows the absolute size of the span and explains that the target date is in the past.
Does a leap day count?
Yes. February 29 is counted whenever it falls inside the selected date range.
Why can months not be converted using 30 days each?
Calendar months have 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. The exact calendar result walks through real years and months before counting the remaining days.
