About the UEFA Champions League Final
The UEFA Champions League Final is the most prestigious match in European club football, deciding the winner of the UEFA Champions League season. Organized by UEFA, it pits the two remaining top clubs from across Europe against each other in a single match held at a neutral venue, typically in late May or early June. It is one of the most watched annual sporting events worldwide.
The Pinnacle of European Club Football
The Coveted Trophy
Teams battle for the European Champion Clubs' Cup, affectionately known as "Ol' Big Ears," the ultimate prize in European club football.
Elite Clubs Compete
The final features the best clubs from Europe's top domestic leagues after a grueling season-long tournament.
Road to the Final
Teams navigate group stages and intense two-legged knockout rounds (Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals) to reach the final.
Global Spectacle
The final attracts hundreds of millions of viewers globally, featuring world-class players and high-stakes drama.
History of the European Cup / Champions League
The competition began in 1955 as the European Champion Clubs' Cup, or simply European Cup. Initially a straight knockout tournament open only to the champion club of each national championship, it was rebranded and expanded in 1992 as the UEFA Champions League, introducing a group stage and allowing multiple entrants from certain countries. Real Madrid holds the record for the most titles.
The Final Match
Unlike the previous knockout rounds which are played over two legs (home and away), the final is a single match played at a pre-selected neutral venue. If the score is level at the end of normal time, extra time is played, followed by a penalty shoot-out if necessary. The winning team is crowned European champion and qualifies for the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
